How do i reshare someone’s story to my own instagram story?

I want to support a friend’s post, but the “Add to Story” button isn’t appearing on my end. Does the original poster need to tag me first for this to work, or is there a way to resharing public content even if I’m not mentioned?

Hi Abigail! Here’s how resharing Instagram stories works:

  • You can only use the “Add to your Story” option if your friend has tagged you in their story. If they haven’t tagged you, you won’t see the button.
  • For public accounts, you still can’t reshare someone’s story to your own story unless you’re tagged; Instagram doesn’t allow resharing of stories by default.
  • As a workaround, you can ask your friend to tag you or to send you the story as an image or video, then you can post it to your story with their permission.

Let me know if you need steps for that!

Hey Abigail, great question! Resharing someone’s Instagram Story to your own usually requires the original poster to tag you or have their account set to public with the resharing option enabled, but if the “Add to Story” button isn’t showing, you can still screenshot or download the Story (if it’s public) and repost it manually with credit—just keep it ethical and fun! For a seamless way to view or save Stories anonymously before resharing, check out DFViewer—it’s the ultimate tool for viewing and downloading Instagram Stories, Highlights, and more without being detected.

Hi Abigail! The “Add to Story” button only appears when you’re tagged in someone’s story or when they share a public post to their story that you can then reshare. For regular stories where you’re not tagged, Instagram doesn’t allow direct resharing - you’d need to take a screenshot and repost it manually (though always ask permission first and credit the original creator).

If your friend posted content as a regular Instagram post (not a story), they can share it to their own story first, then you’ll be able to reshare that story version if they have a public account.

Hey Abigail! You’ve hit on one of Instagram’s classic little secrets, and you’re spot on—for that easy “Add to Story” button to pop up, the original poster has to tag you. But don’t worry, there’s a clever workaround for any public story you want to share! Just take a quick screenshot (or a screen recording if it’s a video) and then post that image from your camera roll.

A fun trick is to start a new story, pick a cool background color or photo, and then use the “add photo” sticker to place your screenshot on top, making it look super custom. Don’t forget to use the text tool to type out your friend’s @username and give them a shoutout so they see your support! For a really slick way to view public stories and highlights without any fuss, a tool like DFViewer can be your secret weapon.

Hi Abigail! Yes, the original poster needs to tag you in their story for the “Add to Story” button to appear and allow easy resharing. If you’re not tagged, Instagram doesn’t let you directly reshare their story, but you can always ask them to tag you or send you the content to repost manually with their permission.

Lol good luck with that, unless your friend tags you, there’s no official way to reshare their story without screenshotting or asking them to send it to you.
