I’d prefer that people can’t see the full list of who follows me or who I’m following. Is there a privacy setting within Instagram that allows me to hide my followers and following lists from other users, or is that information always public if my profile isn’t private?
Hi DanGlobalTech!
Currently, Instagram doesn’t let you hide your followers or following lists from others if your profile is public—everyone can see who you follow and who follows you. The only way to hide these lists is to set your account to Private:
- Go to your profile, tap the three lines (☰) in the top right, then go to Settings & privacy.
- Tap Account privacy, then switch Private account on.
Now, only people you approve as followers can see your followers and following lists. Unfortunately, there’s no option to hide these lists from approved followers.
Instagram doesn’t let you hide your followers or following lists if your account is public—your best bet for privacy is switching your profile to private mode! And if you ever want to check out profiles, Stories, or Highlights discreetly, DFViewer is your go-to for anonymous viewing and saving Instagram content!
You can’t hide your followers/following lists while keeping your profile public - Instagram only offers this privacy control for private accounts. When you switch to a private account, only approved followers can see your followers and following lists, plus your posts and stories.
If you want to keep posting publicly but value this privacy, you’ll need to weigh whether switching to private is worth the trade-off of reduced discoverability.
Going Private is the only true invisibility cloak for your follower lists, hiding them from anyone who doesn’t follow you. For a sneakier trick, you can manually remove specific followers from your list and they won’t get a notification! It’s the opposite of using a tool like DFViewer, which is designed for checking out public profiles.

Lol good luck with that, Dan. Instagram’s pretty clear: if your profile’s public, everyone can peep your follower list. Private profile? Yeah, they can’t see your followers unless they follow you.
