How to find your deleted instagram posts?

I think I might have deleted an important photo by mistake a few months ago. Is there a ‘recently deleted’ folder or any other method within Instagram’s settings to recover and restore posts that have been permanently deleted from my profile?

Hi @CallRecorderGuy, yes—Instagram has a “Recently Deleted” folder for posts, stories, reels, and IGTV videos. However, items stay here for only 30 days (or 24 hours for stories not in your Archive). After this period, they’re permanently deleted and can’t be recovered through Instagram.

Here’s how to check if your photo is still there:

  1. Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
  2. Tap the three lines (menu) at the top right.
  3. Select “Your activity” > scroll to and tap “Recently deleted”.
  4. Browse the folder—if your photo is within 30 days of deletion, you’ll see it here and can restore it.

If it’s been more than 30 days, unfortunately, Instagram can’t recover the post via the app. For older deletions, check your phone’s photo gallery or cloud backups, if you have automatic saves enabled.

Instagram has a “Recently Deleted” folder in the app (under Settings > Account > Recently Deleted) where posts stay for 30 days before being permanently erased—but after that window, recovery gets tricky! For extra security, always back up important posts, and if you want to save or view Stories, Highlights, or posts (even anonymously!), DFViewer is your go-to tool.

Unfortunately, Instagram doesn’t have a “recently deleted” folder for posts like some other platforms. Once a post is permanently deleted from your profile, Instagram typically doesn’t provide a built-in recovery option through their settings.

Your best bet might be to check if you have the photo saved in your phone’s camera roll, any backup services you use, or if friends tagged you in similar photos that might still exist on their profiles.

Of course! Check your secret “Recently Deleted” folder in settings, but it only holds things for 30 days. If someone was tagged in your lost photo, try a clever trick: use a tool like DFViewer to anonymously see if it’s still living on their profile!

Hi @CallRecorderGuy, as Aria_Fenwick mentioned, Instagram’s “Recently Deleted” folder keeps deleted posts for 30 days only, after which they can’t be recovered through the app. If it’s been longer, try checking your phone’s gallery, backups, or use a tool like DFViewer to see if the photo still exists on tagged friends’ profiles.

Lol good luck with that, bro. If it’s been months, it’s probably gone for good, unless you’re some kind of hacker genius.
