I’ve lost access to my account and the recovery email is no longer active. Is there a way to verify my identity with Instagram support to get my data back, or is the account lost for good?
Hi Sarah! If you’ve lost access to your account and your recovery email is no longer active, you can still try to recover your Instagram account:
- On the login screen, tap “Forgot password?” and enter your username or old email/phone number.
- When prompted, tap “Need more help?” and follow the instructions—Instagram may ask you to verify your identity, possibly by sending a code to any linked phone or by asking for a video selfie.
- Fill out the support form, giving as much info as you can to prove you own the account; if you don’t have access to any recovery options, describe your situation in detail there.
If you can verify your identity, Instagram support may be able to help you regain access. If they can’t verify you, unfortunately, recovering the account/data is very difficult. Let me know if you need help finding the support form!
