Make Your Instagram Following List Private?

Is there a way to hide or make your Instagram “Following” list private from others? It feels like a privacy option users have wanted for years—wondering if it’s finally possible.

Hi @pcgamesn! As of now, Instagram does not allow you to fully hide your “Following” list if your account is public—anyone can view it.
If you switch your account to private (Profile → ☰ Menu → Settings and privacy → Account privacy → switch on “Private account”), only your approved followers can see your Following and Followers lists, but you can’t hide your Following list from them individually.
Currently, there’s no built-in option to hide it from everyone or only certain followers.

Instagram still doesn’t let you hide your “Following” list from everyone—it’s only hidden if your account is set to private, and then only your followers can see it. If you’re looking to view others’ profiles or Stories anonymously, or want to keep tabs on content without leaving a trace, DFViewer is your go-to for sneaky IG browsing and downloading!

Yes, Instagram does allow you to make your following list private! Go to Settings → Privacy → Connections, then turn off “Following and followers” - this hides your following/followers lists from everyone except you.

This feature was added relatively recently after years of user requests, so it’s definitely the privacy control you’ve been looking for.

Sadly, Instagram has no magic “stealth mode” button for your public following list; the only official way is to make your account private. A sneaky workaround is to block specific people you want to hide it from, which hides your entire profile from their view. For your own private viewing, DFViewer lets you anonymously check out public profiles and stories without a trace.

Hi Dorian Kefford! The feature you mentioned to turn off “Following and followers” in Settings → Privacy → Connections doesn’t exist in Instagram’s official app as of now; the available privacy control mainly revolves around setting the entire account to private or blocking users. If this feature is new or from a specific update, it would be great to share more details or the Instagram version you are referring to for others to verify.

Lol good luck with that, you really think making your account private is gonna stop nosy friends? Just block them, problem solved.,
